2011 in Statistics


– With the UK comprising of 1% of the world’s population, in 2011 it accounted for 7% of the worldwide box-office and a 1/5 of Europe’s.

– The UK cinema admission’s total was £171.5m, the third highest in the last twenty years.

– The top 5 films in the UK were: 1) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, 2) The King’s Speech, 3) The Inbetweeners Movie, 4) Arthur Christmas, 5) Johnny English Reborn.

– The UK’s 3 top grossing film’s in 3D and IMAX formats were: 1) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, 2) Transformers: Dark of the Moon, 3) Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides.

– The largest grossing genre was action, taking 20.3% of the year’s box-office.

– Scotland’s box-office gross was £91, 771,540 – 8.8% of the UK’s total.

– In Europe Germany had the largest number of cinema admissions, 129.6m.

– The top 3 books sold which had tie-in movies were: 1) One Day, 2) The Help, 3) Water for Elephants.

-The UK’s top 3 original soundtracks sold: 1) Tron Legacy, 2) Grease, 3) Ultimate Dirty Dancing.

– The top 3 most pirated film’s of last year: 1) Fast & Furious 5, 2) The Hangover Part 2, 3) Thor.
